Leeds United could land an incredibly exciting signing by making a move for Italy’s EURO 2020 star Leonardo Spinazzola this summer.

Speaking exclusively to This is Futbol recently, former Leeds star Carlton Palmer claimed that Marcelo Bielsa’s side should be after a player like Spinazzola in the transfer window, and insisted that when stars perform at an international tournament, it catches people’s attentions.

When asked about the possibility of Leeds targeting Spinazzola, Palmer said: “Anybody who’s got energy and can get up and down the pitch will fit into the style that Bielsa wants and the way that he’s going to play. Once you go into a European Championship and you play well and you do well, obviously you’re going to get a lot of suitors.”

He’s faster than Kylian Mbappe and Cristiano Ronaldo

If ahead of the EUROs, you were asked to name who would be the quickest players on show this summer, then you’d likely put France’s Kylian Mbappe near the top of that list.

But, according to UEFA’s official stats, it’s Spinazzola who is actually surprisingly at the top of that list, clocking a quite ridiculous 33.8km/h – to put that into context, that’s ahead of French flier Kingsley Coman (33.6km/h), and Wales speedster Dan James (33.5km/h).

Dubbed as being “electric in attack” by UEFA EURO 2020’s official Twitter account, and as “outrageously good” by ESPN’s Matteo Bonetti, the winger-come-left-back has been in superb form for Roberto Mancini’s Italy.

In the three games he’s played, he’s assisted once, and averaged an impressive two shots, 1.7 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game, and will no doubt be a key figure when the Azzurri take on Belgium in the quarter-finals later tonight.

While Mancini has used him as a marauding left-back, the £100k-a-week earning ace is more so a left-sided winger like he is at club level with AS Roma, and could form a devastatingly quick wing partnership with Raphinha at Elland Road.

Given how Leeds look so good and dangerous on the counter-attack – their tally of seven goals on the break was the highest in the Premier League last season – Spinazzola’s pace and directness would surely fit in perfectly.

Amid speculation Leeds are still interested in Wolves and Spain flier Adama Traore, Spinazzola may be the kind of exciting signing that Bielsa would love.
