Leeds United have reportedly made a potentially record-breaking transfer offer for Wolves star Adama Traore.

What’s the story?

With the Premier League season set to get underway in a couple of weeks, Marcelo Bielsa will no doubt be hoping for some more reinforcements to his squad, and Duncan Castles has delivered an update on one of their targets.

He said: “They (Leeds) were prepared to pay an initial £30m for Adama, who is a player that is well known to Leeds’ director of football Victor Orta. He signed him from Aston Villa when he was in charge at Middlesbrough a few years back.

“My guidance is that Adama is not interested in moving there and sees himself at, rather than making a sideways move in the Premier League, he wants to move up to a club with Champions League status.

“Or at least very realistic chances of reaching the Champions League soon. He’s under contract until 2023 and as we’ve been stating on the Transfer Window Podcast, he has effectively been placed on the market by Wolves. Wolves were interested in this offer, so I think we get a sense of how much they would be prepared to sell the player for.”

Statement of intent

Having paid a club-record fee of around £26m to sign Rodrigo from Valencia last summer, reports that they are willing to eclipse that for Traore signal a real statement of intent from Andrea Radrizzani and co.

Former Leeds midfielder David Norris has already given his backing behind a potential move for the Wolves winger, telling Football FanCast: “He (Bielsa) likes them attacking, exciting players that can create.

“They still must work hard, but the way he’s been in the last couple of seasons, and how much of a danger he is and how much he an create, I think that would be a great signing. Leeds are looking for top players and I think he’s a top player.”

Given the incredible work Bielsa has done in bringing the Whites back to the riches of the Premier League, the least he deserves is some backing in the transfer market when it comes to the players he wants.

This £30m bid for Traore is exactly that and it should have him buzzing.
