Leeds United believe Manchester City would sell Kalvin Phillips for around £30m, according to The Sun.

The Whites are keen to secure a reunion with the midfielder, who played a big part in their rise to the Premier League and even established himself as a regular starter at an international level.

Playing a key role in the Three Lions' journey to the final of Euro 2020, Phillips was in demand at that time and unsurprisingly, he finally moved on during the summer of 2022 after keeping the Whites in the Premier League.

With Man City recruiting him, the Englishman's future looked bright, but things have gone disastrously wrong for the 28-year-old since his switch to the Etihad Stadium.

He hasn't managed to win much game time under Pep Guardiola and even a loan move to West Ham United hasn't been able to revive his career, with his performance against Newcastle United at the weekend being heavily criticised.

Phillips was brought on to provide extra solidity when the Irons were 3-1 up, but they lost 4-3 against the Magpies in the end and it doesn't seem likely that he will be able to turn things around.

After that game, he was caught making an offensive gesture to angry supporters, who had plenty to say to him as he was getting on the team coach.

Leeds United keen on Kalvin Phillips

With things clearly not working out for Phillips at City, it wouldn't be a major surprise if he's sold during the summer window.

He still has four years left on his contract and it doesn't seem as though there's a way back for him under Guardiola, so it would make sense for the English top-tier giants to cash in on him.

With the player still having plenty of time left on his deal, they may be able to secure a decent amount for his signature, although recent performances are likely to bring his price tag down.

Leeds, according to The Sun, are keen on the midfielder and believe £30m could be enough for him to seal a reunion.

It goes without saying that this deal is only likely to happen in the summer if the Whites are promoted at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Kalvin Phillips' return to Leeds United may not be ideal for either party

Although this would be a very romantic signing, it may not work out for the best for Leeds.

Many fans have questioned whether he could thrive at Elland Road now, with Marcelo Bielsa no longer at the club.

As well as this, spending £30m on one player may not be ideal, even if Leeds are promoted at the end of the season.

They would have several areas to address if they are promoted, so they need to spend their money wisely.

And in terms of the midfielder, he would still be firmly under the spotlight if he returned to Elland Road, with the Whites' supporters potentially expecting him to be like he was before he left Elland Road if he returned.

Unfortunately, he's currently a shadow of the player he was, and may benefit from some time away from England to recharge and kickstart his career.

The poor guy needs time away from the spotlight to rediscover his love for football again after being under the spotlight for so long.
