The 1-0 loss to Southampton in last Sunday's play-off final could prove the final game played by multiple first team members of Daniel Farke’s squad.

The most obvious example is Crysencio Summerville, whose future with the club has been shrouded by speculation throughout the last 12 months.

He remained with the Yorkshire outfit despite their relegation in 2023, but his performances in the Championship have seen his stock rise higher than they’ve ever been.

The Dutchman won the EFL’s Player of the Year award, and was crucial to their promotion challenge.

Summerville contributed 19 goals and nine assists in the regular campaign, but the team still missed out on a return to the top flight (all stats from Fbref).

Crysencio Summerville transfer interest

The likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool have all been linked with a potential move for Summerville.

That speculation will only intensify now that we know the club’s league status for next season.

The winger has proven himself ready to make a return to the top flight, and will find it difficult to turn down a move to a team competing in Europe in the next term.

Leeds will have a big decision to make over Summerville’s future, but one thing is guaranteed if he leaves: a big profit will be made.

The winger signed from Feyenoord in a deal worth a reported £1.3 million, and the club has done an excellent job in helping him develop into a talent worth far more than that.

Summerville has a contract until the summer of 2026, which gives the Whites a solid negotiating position.

However, their Championship status does leave them vulnerable to the player pushing for a move.

Leeds United must hold firm Summerville stance

In the event that Summerville does look to sign for another club in this transfer window, Leeds should not stand in his way.

The player stuck with them when they went down, gave his all to their Championship campaign and is now ready to move on to a higher level.

Those are all quite reasonable reasons that make this the right time to cash in.

The club will also see now as a good time to cash in as they will want to avoid going into 2025 with just 12 months remaining on his contract.

Even if they're a Premier League club by then, they may not be able to get the same kind of fee for him at that stage, and will be at risk of losing him for nothing in 2026.

Instead, now is an ideal time to sell because he is so valuable and has a number of top clubs chasing his signature.

Liverpool and Aston Villa both have Champions League income after qualifying for the competition next season, and will have up to £30-40 million to spend on top talent.

Chelsea have also spent quite lavishly in recent windows, so should also be charged a premium fee by Leeds if they show concrete interest.

Any fee in excess of £30 million would be great value for the Whites, as it would be a huge profit on the £1.3 million spent on signing him. It’s enough money to be easily reinvested back into the first team squad, building for another tilt at promotion.

Leeds look to be in a strong position at the negotiating table and need to make that count.
