Leeds United striker Rodrigo is closing in on a move to Qatari club Al-Rayyan, according to The Athletic.

The Spanish centre-forward has one year left on his contract, and Leeds are looking to recoup funds from his departure rather than lose him on a free transfer.

Rodrigo has a £3 million termination clause in his contract, which the Qatari club have activated. The player is set to undergo a medical examination before the transfer is announced.

The forward arrived at Elland Road three years ago in a £27m move from Valencia – a club-record transfer for the Yorkshire outfit at the time.

The former Benfica man established himself as a key player for Leeds, registering 28 goals and five assists in 97 appearances.

Despite suffering his fair share of injury problems last term, Rodrigo enjoyed his most prolific campaign in a Leeds shirt after finishing as the club’s top scorer with 15 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

However, his contribution was not enough to help the Whites avoid relegation from the Premier League, and the striker is now on the cusp of securing a move abroad.

If the move is finalised, Rodrigo will become the fifth player to secure a move away from the club this summer.

Marc Roca has also joined Real Betis on loan with an option to buy, while forward Tyler Roberts secured a permanent move to Birmingham City.

Weston Mckennie has returned to Juventus after the conclusion of his loan deal at Elland Road.

Leeds are poised to lose more players this summer, with Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen in talks to join AS Roma, while Wilfried Gnonto is attracting Premier League interest from Everton.
