Fabrizio Romano is expecting West Ham to sign a winger this summer, amid talk of interest in Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville.

Leeds United's Crysencio Summerville is a top transfer target for West Ham United and Fabrizio Romano is confident that they will sign a left-sided winger this summer.

The Dutchman is inarguably one of the most valuable assets among Daniel Farke's ranks this summer, but remains a Leeds player despite plenty of interest from the top-flight in his services.

The Championship Player of the Year has been subject to interest from several Premier League teams, including West Ham. Leeds' £1.3 million signing from Feyenoord started in Leeds' academy but relegation saw him develop rapidly in the second tier, where he made himself one of the best forwards in the division last season.

He scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists, and such form from a 22-year-old winger is never going to go unnoticed from clubs around Europe. According to transfer expert Romano, Leeds can expect to get between £35 and £40 million for him this summer (via the Daily Briefing).

West Ham are believed to be in the race for his signature this summer, with Romano recently reporting that the Hammers had submitted an initial proposal to Leeds for Summerville.

Despite The Yorkshire Evening Post recently detailing that Leeds do not feel the need to sell the likes of Summerville or Willy Gnonto, it feels like an inevitability that at least one of the two players leaves.

That's especially true with just two years left on his contract at Elland Road, potentially making this summer the ideal time to cash-in on him, though he would be a big miss if he departed the West Yorkshire outfit before next month's deadline.

Keith Wyness has also stated that he believes Leeds should be looking to accept an offer from West Ham for Summerville this summer, via Football Insider's Inside Track Podcast.

A recent claim from Romano outlines that talks have taken place on the player's side with West Ham, but a deal is still not close. That's due to the fact Summerville is considered very expensive, with the Irons unwilling to part with much more than £20 million for the winger.

Now, Give Me Sport are reporting that initial discussions have highlighted that there is a big gap in valuations between the Irons and the Whites. They asked Romano for an update on the situation.

He said: "We know how West Ham United work, they always have several options. They like to negotiate for several players in the same position, and then close the deal as soon as they are convinced.

"But Crysencio Summerville remains one of the players that they like in general. I think West Ham will do something else, for sure, on the market in that position."

There's been an inevitable feeling that Summerville will leave at some stage in the window, albeit Leeds will not be keen for the process to drag out into the latter stages of the window.

If it does that, then it could leave them in a difficult situation towards the end of the window if a move for Summerville materialises, leaving them scrambling for a replacement, with most of their top targets likely to have moved elsewhere.

Following their failure to win promotion in the Championship play-off final against Southampton, the Whites are unlikely to convince Summerville that he should stay on for another season, especially with a number of established Premier League teams after him.

West Ham would be an excellent move for the star wide player, as a club where he could start regularly in the Premier League prior to a move during his peak years to a European regular.
