The Whites could feel hard done by, but Goodman has urged them to look to the present and future instead.

Leeds United must look to the present and future rather than focus any of their attention on Leicester City's recent boost.

These comments were made to Don Goodman, who told MOT Leeds News that the Foxes' appeal against an alleged breach of profit and sustainability rules being upheld shouldn't affect the Whites' mindset in their quest to secure a Premier League return at the second time of asking.

Leicester had appealed against being referred to an independent Commission for an alleged breach of financial rules, on the grounds that they had ceased to be a member of the English top flight when their accounting period ended on 30th June 2023.

They were alleged to have broken financial rules at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, with the Premier League believing that the Midlands side had breached the £105m loss limit over a three-year period.

But with Steve Cooper's side's appeal proving to be successful, they have escaped without punishment and Leeds may feel hard done by because of this.

If the Foxes had breached financial rules at the end of 2022/23 and were given a punishment for that last season, that could have been crucial in the promotion race.

But in the end, despite suffering a wobble during the latter stages of the campaign, Leicester managed to get themselves over the line and win the Championship title.

Leeds, shortly after the Foxes' title win, were able to secure their place in the play-off final against Southampton.

But Adam Armstrong's goal at Wembley consigned the West Yorkshire side to another season in the second tier, which was a major blow for the Whites.

Some of the Whites' star players left after the final, including Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.

With their play-off heartbreak and these departures in mind, Leeds may have the right to feel aggrieved about Leicester escaping a punishment.

But Goodman has urged them to focus on the future, saying: "There’s a loophole there that needs closing. I’m sure between them the EFL and Premier League will do something about that.

"Ultimately, Leicester played the system and the system allowed them to play it. Leeds will be best served concentrating on what is in the here and now, rather than the past.

"That doesn’t get you anywhere, so they just need to focus on this season, this squad, this manager and get promoted back to the Premier League this season."

Leeds United have a potentially exciting future to look forward to

Leeds have many things to look forward to.

Their stadium expansion plan is an ambitious one and it should help to take the atmosphere to a new level, which can only be a good thing.

The Whites also have ambitious owners at the helm, who haven't been afraid to invest in the first-team squad since their arrival.

With good things going on both on and off the pitch, they can put the Leicester controversy behind them and they have probably already done that.

As Goodman says, there's no point in them focusing too much on it.
