Leeds United are on the verge of signing Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr according to Foot Mercato.

The clubs are close to reaching an agreement, while Leeds and Sarr are also close to agreeing personal terms. Leeds want to make the 24-year-old the successor to Raphinha on the right wing.

The Senegal international was relegated with Watford last season, but he has shown that he is more than good enough to perform in the top flight.

Last season in the Premier League, the former Rennes man scored five goals and provided five big chances in 22 appearances. During the 2019/20 campaign, he scored five goals and created nine big chances for his teammates.

Liverpool were reportedly close to signing Sarr two years ago but he never moved. He went on to score 14 goals in the Championship.

Sarr is a risky investment for Leeds. He is prone to niggling injuries that have hampered his consistency and broken his momentum.

However, the 2021 AFCON winner is a Premier League-proven talent that can help Jesse Marsch avoid another relegation scramble this season.

Sarr has started the new season well. He has one assist and one incredulous goal from midfield in two Championship games.

He offers Marsch the option of being able to play from the left and up top.

If Sarr signs for Leeds, it will take the club’s spending to over £100 million. They have already splurged on Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi.

They made around £100m from the sale of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha. Leeds are performing a rebuild for their new American manager in light of those significant departures, and Sarr would be another impressive signing for the Yorkshire club.
