According to Florian Plettenberg, Leeds United have agreed to sign Fortuna Düsseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka.
It had previously been reported that the Championship outfit were keen on luring Tanaka away from the 2. Bundesliga before the end of the transfer window.
However, it is now understood that the Japanese international will join Leeds with immediate effect.
As stated in the report, Tanaka will undergo a medical with the English side later today before signing a four-year deal at Elland Road, seeing the 25-year-old potentially remain in England until 2028.
It is believed that Fortuna will receive €4 million for the midfielder, with his £2.65 million release clause no longer being active.
Last season, Tanaka featured 36 times for Fortuna, scoring eight goals and registering four assists as Daniel Thioune’s side narrowly missed out on promotion to the Bundesliga after a heartbreaking defeat to VfL Bochum in the relegation/promotion playoff.
