Leeds United-linked striker Viktor Gyokeres faces a waiting game over his future this summer, with Coventry City said to have 'some reservations' over him moving to Elland Road, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The 24-year-old has been in prolific form this campaign and interest is expected to be high in him in the next transfer window due to his goalscoring exploits.

TEAMtalk understands that Leeds United are interested in signing Gyokeres from Coventry City in the summer and will pursue the Sweden international regardless if they are relegated or stay in the Premier League.

Javi Gracia has recently assumed the managerial position at Elland Road and his long-term future at the club is likely to depend on whether he can guide them to safety; however, bringing in a striker is in the pipeline at the Whites, irrespective of who is in the dugout come the start of 2023/23.

In the January transfer window, both Bournemouth and Everton were linked with a move for the ex-St Pauli forward, though his current employers warded off their advances by placing a £25 million price-tag on their star asset.

Nevertheless, Gyokeres will have just 12 months on his deal upon the conclusion of this term and Coventry City will find it hard to keep hold of him given that they run the risk of losing him on a free transfer, with his contract expiring in 2024.

What has Dean Jones said about Viktor Gyokeres?

Journalist Jones has detailed that Coventry City have 'some reservations' over Gyokeres joining Leeds United in the summer.

Jones told GMS: "Let's see what league they end up in because things might change, but yeah, from what I've heard, they do have some reservations about him being likely to join Leeds right now."

What are Viktor Gyokeres's stats this season?

Gyokeres has been in sparkling form this campaign, netting 15 times and laying on four assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt.

In the Championship, WhoScored shows that the 24-year-old has been averaging around 2.9 shots per match across 2022/23, demonstrating his ability to trouble opposing backlines regularly.

Whether the Swede is ready for the step up to Premier League football is one thing, though he can hardly be ignored much longer if he keeps on the goal trail between now and the end of the season.

For now, all focus for Leeds United will be on their battle against the drop, with a crunch clash against Southampton lying in wait for the Whites this weekend.
