Leeds United signing RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams this summer is now “highly likely”, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

The 23-year-old is currently being linked with a move to Elland Road as Kalvin Phillips closes in on a transfer to Manchester City.

What is the latest news involving Adams?

As per the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds director of football Victor Orta is talking to Adams ahead of a potential switch to the club this transfer window.

The same outlet claims that the Leipzig man is high on Orta’s list, while it is believed that the Spaniard is also an admirer of Red Bull Salzburg’s Mohamed Camara.

Leeds are in the market for a new midfielder largely because of Phillips’ impending departure.

According to Sky Sports, the England star is close to joining Premier League champions City in a deal worth £45-50m.

What has Jacobs said about Adams to Leeds?

Jacobs has told GIVEMESPORT that there is a good possibility Adams will be a Leeds player before the transfer window closes.

Speaking to GMS, the CBS reporter said: “I think that Tyler Adams is highly likely from what I understand. A player that Jesse Marsch knows really well and a strong addition as well, so that I think will be one of the first that Jesse Marsch tries and wraps up, and let’s not forget that [Brenden] Aaronson has joined as well. That is a really good signing, too.”

Is Adams good enough to replace Phillips?

Replicating Phillips’ influence will be no easy task for Adams if he is the man to replace the 26-year-old.

Over the last year, Phillips has ranked in the 97th percentile for tackles and the 96th for blocks among midfielders (via FBref), so you can see his importance to Leeds when they are defending.

Still, Adams is a talented player and has time to improve given that he is still just 23.

When was Leeds founded?

1909 1929 1919 1899

Speaking about Adams, who he has managed before, Marsch said back in 2019 (via LeedsLive): “The ceiling is massive for him, everyone can see that. I obviously played a part in Tyler, and the relationship with the club, and the eventual move to come here [Leipzig]. I knew he’d do well.”

If the USA international, who is valued at £26m by the CIES Football Observatory, is given time to adapt to the Premier League, then perhaps he could grow into the role Phillips has been successfully occupying at Elland Road.
