Leeds United ‘obviously like’ Southampton striker Che Adams amid growing speculation over his future, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Whites are believed to be in the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of September’s deadline and could turn their attention to the Scotland international.

At the end of last month, The Sun reported that Leeds were lining up a ‘surprise move’ for Adams as they are still light in attack and he has been ‘squeezed’ down the Saints pecking order.

It was stated that the west Yorkshire outfit were hopeful of concluding a deal for around £10 million for the 26-year-old, although Southampton were expected to demand a slightly higher fee.

And Football Insider have provided an update on Adams’ situation, revealed that newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have now entered the race for his signature.

Leeds saw a £20m bid rejected for the technically gifted ace back in January 2020, but he now only has two years remaining on his current contract, and French forward Sekou Mara from Bordeaux has arrived at St. Mary’s.

The Athletic disclosed after Southampton’s opening-day defeat that Ralph Hasenhuttl is prepared to sanction Adams’ sale, opening the door to his potentially imminent exit.

What has Jones said about Adams?

Adams was an unused substitute as the south coast club fell to a 4-1 loss at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Jones believes Hasenhuttl was sending Adams a message by leaving him on the bench throughout the 90 minutes and believes Leeds’ admiration for the player is clear to see.

He told GiveMeSport: “Well, he just hasn’t really been a big part of their pre-season, and I think Hasenhuttl wanted him to know that he doesn’t just walk into that team while he’s wondering if he even wants to be there. I think that Leeds obviously like him.”

Would Adams be a good signing?

While Adams has hardly been prolific throughout his three-year spell with Southampton, he has proven himself to be a valuable asset in the Premier League.

Do you know this obscure player Leeds signed in the January transfer window?

Sam Dalby Paudie O’Connor Lewis Baker Mateusz Bogusz

In 2020/21, the 5 foot 10 forward registered nine goals and five assists in 36 Premier League appearances, adding a further 10 goal contributions in 30 top-flight fixtures last season, leading to him being dubbed “unreal”.

Those are healthy tallies considering Adams was part of a side that finished in 15th position on both occasions, and if Leeds can snap him up for around £10m, then he could prove to be a bargain buy.
