Despite a downturn in results from the turn of the year, Régis Le Bris’ first season as a manager will not have gone unnoticed, with the 47-year-old leading the Bretons to second place during most of the autumn. Although he lost two key players in January – Terem Moffi and Dango Ouattara – the rookie was able to guide Les Merlus to an impressive top-half finish.

Having been the subject of prior interest from Nice – who have since hired 34-year-old Italian Francesco Farioli – Le Bris looks set to leave Lorient this summer in any case. The manager’s relationship with the club’s hierarchy has reportedly deteriorated to a point of no return, leading to Le Bris informing club president Loïc Féry of his intention to leave. The young coach is said to be frustrated at the repeated sales of key players and the state of the pitch at the Moustoir stadium.

According to Mohamed Toubache-Ter, a move across the Channel could also be on the cards for the manager, with recently-relegated Leeds making a move. According to the Guardian, however, German coach Daniel Farke is instead on the verge of taking over at Elland Road, emerging as the favourite in a shortlist that also included soon-to-be Strasbourg coach Patrick Vieira.
