Leeds United to revive their interest in Daniel James

According to the Daily Star, Leeds United will reignite their interest in signing Daniel James this summer if the Welshman becomes surplus to requirements at Manchester United.

James joined Manchester United from EFL Championship side Swansea City last summer. After a blistering start to life at Old Trafford, the youngster has seen his form nosedive dramatically since the turn of the year.

The 22-year-old lost his place in the starting XI to Mason Greenwood last season. And while he was picked ahead of the teenager on Saturday against Crystal Palace, James struggled to make any sort of impact.

Manchester United are in the market for a new right-sided winger this summer. The club failed with an attempt to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, while their pursuit of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund drags on. (h/t Daily Star)

With James already having lost his place in the side, the arrival of another wide player would push him further down the pecking order. And should that come to be, Leeds are prepared to sign the Welshman. (h/t Daily Star)

The Whites had tried to sign James in January last year but a move failed to materialise. However, if he becomes surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, they will make an attempt to sign him up on loan with an option to make the transfer permanent next year. (h/t Daily Star)

  • Man United enter negotiations with Inter Milan for Ivan Perisic

James often looked out of his depth towards the end of last season. And a loan spell might do him a lot of good. However, letting him leave without strengthening the wide areas first would be foolhardy from United.
