Leeds v Aston Villa

Scorers:

Leeds and Aston Villa played out a feisty goalless draw as the Yorkshire giants held out for 40 minutes with 10 men.

Jesse Marsch wasn’t on the touchline for this clash with Villa after his red card last time out against Brentford.

It was the Elland Road side who did most of the playing in the opening exchanges but struggled to create any meaningful chances.

Villa started to get a foothold in the game by now and went close to opening the scoring on 15 minutes as Oli Watkins fired in low at Illan Meslier’s goal.

Rodrigo had Leeds’ best chance just five minutes later as he slid in after a good cross from Luis Sinisterra but failed to get on the end of the cross.

Watkins missed another golden chance on the half hour mark as he was unmarked inside the area but headed over the bar from six yards.

Into the second half and this bad-tempered game saw a red card as Sinisterra was given his marching orders after failing to move back the required 10 yards from a free kick.

Villa almost immediately made the home side pay but Coutinho’s volley crashed back off the post.

Manchester City v Manchester United

Scorers: Foden 8′ 44′, 72′ Haaland 34′ 37′ 64′; Antony 56′, Martial 82′ (PEN) 90′

Manchester City battered Manchester United in the 188th derby as hat-tricks from Erling Haalang and Phil Foden saw them win 6-3.

City flew out of the traps and had three efforts inside the opening three minutes with De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Grealish all having shots blocked in quick succession.

And they made the most of that dominance on eight minutes as Foden found space inside the area and stroked an effort into the back of the net.

Pep Guardiola’s side almost doubled their lead on 20 minutes as Gundogan’s free kick whipped around the wall but struck the outside of the right-hand post.

The hosts were in complete control and soon got a second as Haaland rose highest from a corner and netted in his eighth consecutive game for City.

The Norwegian sensation wasn’t done there though as he bagged his second just three minutes later, ghosting in at the far post and tapping in outstretched at the far post.

Haaland then turned provider just before the break as he played a gorgeous ball into the path of Foden who stroked in at the back post.

After the break United managed to get a consolation strike with their first effort on goal as Antony fired in a stunning effort from the edge of the area past Ederson.

But City restored their four-goal advantage on 65 minutes as Haaland scored a third hat-trick in consecutive games.

Whatever Haaland could do Foden could repeat as well, as he got a hat-trick of his own to equal the record score in the derby.

The scoring wasn’t over however as Martial headed in after Fred’s initial effort to make it 6-2 before scoring a penalty for their third.
