Leeds United wanted to sign Aston Villa full back Matty Cash.

Both clubs wanted to sign Cash in the summer transfer window, and Villa were the ones who won the race to sign him from Nottingham Forest.

That is according to former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Villa stumped up the cash to Forest, paying £14 million for the full back.

Cash has been ever present for Villa this term.

"Matty Cash has been outstanding. He was a player that Leeds looked at as well," Robinson told Football Insider.

"Cash has done brilliantly since he has come in and it was yet another start for him at the weekend.

"I have been really impressed with him, he has done very well. Coming into a Villa team that has been playing well will have helped him."
