Michail Antonio of West Ham United celebrates after scoring to make it 3-0 against Brighton
Leeds United are reportedly considering a shock move for West Ham United striker Michail Antonio as Daniel Farke looks to bolster his attack.
The Jamaica international scored a fine goal against Brighton in the Hammers’ 3-1 victory at the Amex on Saturday. He also netted against Chelsea in the previous fixture.
Antonio remains West Ham’s first-choice striker after Gianluca Scamacca signed for Atalanta earlier this month.
Despite Antonio still being a key player for David Moyes, there are rumours that if West Ham sign a new striker this week, he could be allowed to leave.
The London club are currently chasing long-term striker target Youssef En-Nesyri. As reported by Football365, Sevilla could sanction his sale for £27m.
En-Nesyri scored 18 goals in all competitions for the last season, so could prove to be a valuable addition for the Hammers. They have already made several impressive signings, too, bringing in Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez, Konstantinos Mavropanos and James Ward-Prowse so far.
If West Ham do sign En-Nesyri, Leeds could get an opportunity to sign Antonio before the transfer window slams shut on Friday.
That is according to Football Transfers, who claim Leeds are among several clubs interested in signing the 33-year-old.
Antonio’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season, so he wouldn’t command a big price if West Ham do decide to sell him.
Interestingly, the report also claims that the veteran striker would ‘request to leave’ should En-Nesyri be signed.
This is good news for Leeds, who are seemingly looking to sign a new centre-forward to provide competition for Patrick Bamford, Georginio Rutter, Joe Gelhardt and new signing Joel Piroe.
Football Transfers also claims that Fulham could push to sign Antonio, too. Marco Silva is also on the hunt for a new striker after Aleksandr Mitrovic joined Saudi club Al Hilal.
