Leeds United ‘don’t want to sell’ winger Jack Harrison this summer despite the interest in him, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton.

The 25-year-old is believed to be on Newcastle United’s radar as Eddie Howe looks to improve his attacking options, but they may be forced to move onto alternative targets.

Back in May, The Telegraph revealed that Newcastle were eager to snap up Harrison this summer despite Leeds managing to avoid relegation on the final day of the Premier League campaign.

And French outlet FootMercato have now claimed that the Magpies have tabled a €40 million (£33.7m) offer for the former England Under-21 international.

However, that figure reportedly fell below Leeds’ €47m (£40m) asking price and it now appears unlikely that a deal will be strook between the two clubs.

The west Yorkshire outfit’s chairman Andrea Radrizzani was quick to dispel any suggestion that Harrison could be sold prior to the window slamming shut on September 1 when discussing his future

“Absolutely not. There is no way. Jack stays here,” Radrizzani told The Athletic after being asked about the possibility of the attacker departing Elland Road.

What has Thornton said about Harrison?

In an interview with GiveMeSport, Thornton said: “Leeds don’t want to sell him anyway. I’m not sure the player’s going to push for a move, I think he’s quite happy at Leeds as well.

“So, unless somebody comes in with a massive offer, I think he’ll stay at Elland Road.

“But it’s whether somebody’s prepared to maybe put a figure on (the negotiating table) that Leeds think, ‘yeah, we might be prepared to talk at that figure.’ As things stand, I don’t see that happening.”

How big a loss would Harrison be?

Leeds have already lost two key players in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha this summer, and watching Harrison walk out of the club would be a bitter blow for manager Jesse Marsch.

Last term, he registered eight goals and one assist in 35 Premier League appearances, building on the impressive 16 goal contributions he racked up in 36 top-flight fixtures throughout 2020/21.

Sam Dalby Paudie O’Connor Lewis Baker Mateusz Bogusz

As per WhoScored, Harrison also averaged 1.2 key passes, 1.5 dribbles and 0.5 crosses per league game las season, placing in the top three for each metric amongst his teammates.

Leeds fans will surely be hoping that Radrizzani sticks to his word, therefore, as he could be a player Marsch relies upon in the final third of the pitch this season.
