Leeds United could launch an ambitious bid to sign Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic this summer although it is a move the player is unlikely to agree to, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Jesse Marsch has overseen a busy window but remains eager to add attacking reinforcements ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest transfer news from Leeds?

The Whites’ manager once again claimed this week that he is looking for a new striker to offer support to Patrick Bamford but that he wants the right fit for the club.

Ahead of Leeds’ trip to Southampton this weekend, Marsch told his press conference: “A lot of it is looking for the right profile, what age we want, without suffocating some of the young players getting chances in the next few years.”

Previous target Arnaud Kalimuendo completed a transfer to Ligue 1 side Rennes this week while they have been joined in the race to sign Che Adams by Everton and Nottingham Forest.

What has Jones said about an ambitious Pulisic move?

Jones says he would not be surprised if Leeds did launch a move to sign Pulisic from Chelsea this summer.

However, the transfer insider says a move to Elland Road will not be on his mind, even with compatriot Marsch at the helm.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It wouldn’t surprise me if Leeds were to try their luck on it, but I just can’t see Christian Pulisic going for it, even with Jesse Marsch there, it’s not the level of football that he moved to England to be playing.

“Going from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea, that’s a clear pathway to becoming one of the best players in your position in the world, and to then move on to Leeds, I don’t think that’s really what he’s got in mind at the moment.”

Do Leeds stand a chance?

Chelsea are open to selling Pulisic this summer with the USA international well down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

The Champions League winner has two years remaining on his contract and has been linked with moves to the likes of AC Milan and Juventus earlier in the window.

There were also reports that Liverpool were interested in signing the 23-year-old in January with the Blues quoting their rivals £42 million for his signature at the time.

But, like Jones said, it seems unlikely that a player of Pulisic’s potential would drop down to a side who were battling relegation last season, while the star’s £150,000 per-week wages could also cause an issue at Elland Road.
