Leeds United are weighing up appointing Nuno Espirito Santo until the end of the season, reports the Daily Mail.

The Elland Road club have been linked with a couple of names in their bid to get in Jesse Marsch’s replacement.

However, they have failed in their attempts to appoint West Bromwich Albion’s Carlos Corberan, Rayo Vallecano’s Andoni Iraola and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

Leeds also held talks with former Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder over the weekend, but he has been ruled out.

The Whites are now assessing whether to appoint an interim head coach until the end of the season.

Espirito Santo is currently with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad and was recently linked with a return to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Steven Gerrard and his former assistant manager Gary McAllister have also emerged as candidates.

However, the former Rangers and Aston Villa manager has reservations about taking the job.

The timing of their vacancy or length of contract on offer have been points of conflict for most of Leeds’ managerial candidates.

The west Yorkshire club are hesitant to hand out a long-term deal out of fear of the unknown.

They could be playing in the Championship next term, which would affect their finances.

Leeds want to make an appointment before Saturday’s six-pointer against Everton.

They are 17th in the table after 22 games, with only a point and a place separating them from the Toffees.

The Whites’ under-21 manager Michael Skubala remains in charge of training. Leeds drew 2-2 against Manchester United in their first game after Marsch’s dismissal.

They lost 2-0 in their next game against the same opponents and will hope to get a win against Everton.
