Leeds United have confirmed the departure of interim boss Sam Allardyce after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Allardyce joined the Yorkshire outfit for the final four games of the season but led the club to just one point as they went down on the final day.

Now, though, he has left by way of mutual agreement as the club look ahead to life in the Championship.

“At this stage in my career I am not sure taking on this challenge, which is potentially a long-term project, is something I could commit to,” Allardyce said.

“I wish the club every success for the future and hope the club returns to the Premier League, where they belong.”

Leeds say an announcement on a new head coach “will be made in the coming weeks.”
