Leeds 1 Liverpool 6 – Man of the Match

Trent Alexander Arnold

It would have been easy to pick out Diogo Jota for man of the match, with a ferocious period of play. The Portuguese forward has endured some harrowing form (of late), so tonight allowed him to show his best attributes. Those moments were decisive and key to the second-half goal fest, with multiple moments of crisp attacking play.

My man of the match could have also been Egyptian King, with a clinical display to dispel any issues that may have arisen, after his penalty miss last weekend. His first goal was a brilliantly taken strike before a cute curling effort for his second.

I have chosen Trent because he was able to link the system together, whilst controlling so much of our on-ball patterns of play. His range of passing, touch, awareness, and ability to create chances shone tonight. The first assist was good, the second superb. Without Thiago, we have looked so weak in that middle area. His confidence and decision-making were so important to how we rose tonight, therefore this adjusted role must be carried forward.

After a difficult season of uncertainty, Trent shone brightly against a poor Leeds team and allowed more assurance to Fabinho in that central area. If the right pieces can be bought to solidify the structure of the team, next season could be all about the emergence of our number 66, the Reds new playmaking midfielder.
