Lee Cattermole’s near decade of service at Sunderland could be coming to an end.

That’s according to the Sunderland Echo who say that the Black Cats are looking to offload their talismanic midfielder due to his Premier League-level wages.

Cattermole has stayed with the Wearsiders even in their slip down two divisions, but his wage packet has remained largely the same.

As such, Jack Ross’ outfit are open to offers this summer and are believed to have found a buyer in Sheffield Wednesday.

Wednesday are currently managed by Steve Bruce, Cattermole’s former boss at the Stadium of Light.

The Echo say that Bruce is keen to work with the 31-year-old again, with the midfielder also keen on a reunion.
