Benjamin Lecomte knows Monaco cannot afford to take Dijon lightly when the Ligue 1 Uber Eats title challengers come up against the division's bottom side on Sunday.

Dijon have lost their last 11 league matches, and will equal the French record of 12 set by CA Paris in 1933/34 if they are defeated at the Stade Louis II.

Monaco are in third place and have won their last two league games 4-0, leaving only the most optimistic Dijon fan believing their team can get something from the trip to the Côte d'Azur.

But Lecomte, who played for Dijon and Lorient before joining Montpellier and then Monaco, knows the hosts can ill afford to be slapdash in their preparation.

"I've been in that situation. I know what it is to prepare a game against a big team," explained the Monaco goalkeeper. "There's always the possibility that they don't prepare it in the right way."

With Kevin Volland, Wissam ben Yedder and Stevan Jovetic in fine form, Monaco boast the division's most potent attack in 2021 with 36 goals scored.

Finding the back of the net has not been a problem for Niko Kovac's men this season, but their title push has been based on a defence that has tightened up significantly since the turn of the year.

With five clean sheets in their last six games, the 2016/17 champions have found a solidity that has propelled them into the reckoning.

"You need application and determination. Without determination, you don't get anywhere," said Lecomte, who has conceded just one goal from the last 55 shots faced.

"We had a good level going forward, but we were conceding too many goals. Our work every day is paying off, even if it's late in the season, it's good that it's happening now."
