The Lecce staff member suddenly passed away on the eve of the game on Thursday, so the match, which was initially scheduled for Friday, was moved to Sunday.

Lecce, however, were disappointed that Lega Serie A rearranged the fixture without their consent and only two days after the death of an important staff member and a friend of many players.

Lecce didn’t train yesterday and will take to the field for a light training session today.

Lega Serie A have refused to postpone the game further, while Lecce are shocked and haven’t trained for the last two days.

It remains to be seen how the situation will evolve, but if the game is confirmed and Lecce refuse to play, they will lose 3-0 by default and be docked one point.

Lecce ultras have bagged the team not to play, hanging a banner outside the Stadio via del Mare on Friday: ‘Not taking to the pitch is the only thing to do,’ the statement reads.

‘Shameful Lega, you are sickening to Lecce.’
