Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta has urged fans and the media to leave Paulo Dybala alone.
The Argentinian forward scored ten goals in his first six Serie A appearances this season but has since gone through a relative barren spell, with just one goal in his last six.
That form has seen the 23-year-old’s behaviour scrutinised but Marotta is eager for everyone to get off his back.
“There’s a lot of pressure on him at the moment,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“We’ve got used to him giving extraordinary performances. Therefore, when he puts in an ordinary performance, it’s branded inadequate.
“In reality, he’s a player who only turns 24 years on November 15. Therefore, we have to let him mature so that he becomes a champion.”
To really judge Dybala and his progression, people should possibly add some perspective: he already has as many Serie A goals this season as he managed in all of last season.
Sometimes you’re on top form, sometimes you’re not – a point Marotta was quick to add.
“When you’re young, there are times when your performances aren’t at their best.”
Handily enough for Juventus, Dybala’s dip in form has coincided with Gonzalo Higuaín rediscovering his golden touch in front of goal.
With results still good enough, it’s hardly time to jump on Dybala’s back and pile even more pressure on him.
