Leandro Paredes reveals decision to wear Daniele De Rossi’s jersey number

Upon his return to the Italian capital, Leandro Paredes surprised fans by selecting an iconic shirt number.

The Argentine midfielder was given the choice to wear Daniele De Rossi’s famous 16 jersey, which Paredes accepted only after receiving De Rossi’s permission to do so.

“I never would’ve allowed it to happen without Daniele’s permission,” Paredes told Roma TV after signing his contract with the Giallorossi.

“He sent me a message to say he’d be thrilled for me to wear that number. It’ll be an honor for me and I have huge respect for him,” Paredes said of the legendary Roma captain and former teammate.

“I’ll always be grateful to him for the way he treated me, not just on the pitch but also off it.”

“I’d like to take this chance to thank Daniele,” Paredes concluded.
