Leah Williamson has dedicated England's Arnold Clark Cup triumph to Beth Mead's mother June, who sadly passed away last month.

The Lionesses defended their title at the invitational tournament on Wednesday after a thrilling 6-1 win over Belgium.

Sarina Wiegman's team were without Mead, who is currently recovering from an ACL injury she suffered back in November while playing for Arsenal in the Women's Super League.

As well as dealing with an injury that has put her World Cup chances in doubt, Mead tragically lost her mum to ovarian cancer.

Since June's passing, the women's football community has rallied to show its support for the Arsenal and England star, including her teammates.

What did Leah Williamson say?

After netting two goals to help England win the Arnold Clark Cup for a second time, Williamson lifted her third trophy since being named captain last year.

The Lionesses won all three of their tournament fixtures, beating South Korea, Italy, and Belgium on the way to adding another piece of silverware to the cabinet.

During the trophy celebrations at Ashton Gate, Williamson held the cup up to the camera and dedicated the win.

"Beth, we love you, this is for June Mead," she said and kissed the trophy.

Mead, who was backing the Lionesses from home, has responded to Williamson's kind words.

"Love this team, mum would be so proud," she wrote along with a teary-eyed emoji and a heart.

England's unstoppable form

England continued their magnificent run with their latest trophy win.

Since Wiegman's first match as Lionesses manager back in September 2021, they are yet to register a single loss.

Just two months after Wiegman's debut, England set a new national record with an astonishing 20-0 win over Latvia in a World Cup qualifying match.

They went on to win the first ever Arnold Clark Cup, finishing above Spain, Germany, and Canada.

After winning their first trophy under Wiegman, England went on to make history at Euro 2022.

They ended the nation's 56-year wait for a major title in front of 87,192 fans at Wembley, a new European Championship record attendance in both the women's and men's history.

With another cup added to their tally, England's focus now shifts to the World Cup this summer, where they will enter the tournament as one of the favourites.
