League One clubs are looking to get business done early in the January transfer window.
We are under a week into the January transfer window, and many League One clubs are already making headlines. The league table has taken shape ahead of the second half of the season, as some clubs look to battle for safety, whilst others hunt down promotion to the Championship.
The top eight is filled with the league's giants, but Stevenage have been the surprise package as they sit seventh in the table. Pompey are the current league leaders, having won 15 of their first 25 league games.
As always, there will be plenty of outgoings and incomings in this year's January transfer window, and today, Football League World looks at the latest headlines regarding League One.
Thursday the 4th of January saw Carlisle confirm three signings in the space of two hours, with the club sitting 22nd in the table. Their marquee signing of the day was Harrogate striker, Luke Armstrong, who in the summer was just minutes away from signing for Wrexham.
The 27-year-old has been left out of the starting 11 for the most part this season, but last campaign saw him net 16 League Two goals and grab six assists in a struggling Harrogate side. Armstrong's only League One appearances came for Accrington Stanley in the 2018/19 campaign as he scored three goals. Carlisle announced that they had agreed terms for the striker back in December, but officially confirmed his signing once the January window had opened.
Along with Luke Armstrong came Sheffield United man, Harrison Neal. The hardworking midfielder enjoyed loan spells with Kettering Town, Southend United and Barrow, before spending the first half of this season with Stevenage in League One. Neal appeared 11 times for Steve Evans' side before returning to his parent club and agreeing permanent terms with Carlisle.
The third signing of the day for Carlisle was young Irishman, Sean Grehan. The centre-half joins on loan from Crystal Palace, where he regularly wears the captain's armband in the U21s Premier League. In 2023, Grehan made his debut for the Republic of Ireland U21s.
As per Football Insider, Oxford United have submitted a bid for Chesterfield's Armando Dobra, with the player entering the final six months of his contract.
The winger is very much enjoying his time at Chesterfield, with the side sitting at the top of the National League. He has made 18 starts this season, scoring six goals and assisting one.
The Albania U21 international has brief League One experience from his time with Ipswich Town as a youngster, as he made 17 appearances during the 2020/21 campaign. The fee that Oxford have bidded for Dobra remains unknown.
Luton Town striker, Joe Taylor, has received interest from a whole host of League One clubs, including Oxford United, Bolton Wanderers, Lincoln City and Wycombe Wanderers, according to Football Insider.
The 21-year-old is currently on loan at Colchester United and is the club's top scorer this season with 12 to his name already. Taylor would be an exciting option in attack for any side in League One as he looks to make the step-up to regular third-tier football.
Luton are set to recall Taylor from his loan spell at Colchester, which would be heartbreak for the Essex side, but great news for whoever picks him up in League One.
