Morecambe striker Cole Stockton is the subject of fresh transfer interest ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report from Alan Nixon on Patreon.
The forward was a man in-demand from the Shrimps’ League One rivals in the summer, but no-one could meet the club’s asking price following his 23-goal haul in the 2021-22 campaign.
Football League World exclusively revealed back in August that the 28-year-old handed in a transfer request to Morecambe’s hierarchy in a bid to force through a move, with Fleetwood Town the most interested in his services, but he remained at the Mazuma Stadium following the deadline.
Stockton has not always been a regular starter since the window slammed shut in September, and after a long goal drought he finally got off the mark for the League One season in a 1-1 draw with Exeter City last weekend.

Despite his barren spell in-front of goal, there is still interest in his signature heading into the January window, and with less than a year remaining on his contract another third tier side in the form of Forest Green Rovers are keen to sign him.
Also in the mix are Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell, who could potentially secure Stockton’s services on a pre-contract agreement for next season when 2023 rolls around due to his contract situation.
The Verdict
Having hit some amazing heights in the previous two seasons as Morecambe’s leading man, this season has been somewhat of a shuddering crash back down to earth for Stockton.
Just one goal from 16 league outings isn’t good enough considering we know what he can do, and potential Championship interest that may have come in January has now faded into obscurity.
At this point, it may be better for him to wait his deal out until the end of the season instead of jumping ship in the middle of the campaign.
It would make no real sense to make a sideways move to Forest Green, but a return north of the border could potentially be tempting, even though he didn’t have a good time of things at Hearts a number of years ago.
