Leading Italian reporters provide contrasting information on Erik ten Hag’s future

Gianluca Di Marzio is an Italian journalist with a strong reputation, who claims Manchester United will part ways with Erik ten Hag has named three potential candidates under consideration at Old Trafford.

This evening’s update sent social media into meltdown. I immediately thought it would be bad taste to brief about a manager being sacked three days before an FA Cup final when INEOS have been tight-lipped on Ten Hag’s future since arriving as co-owners.

A decision will come at the end of the season, but certain media outlets are guilty of being trigger-happy to get the story first.

What did Di Marzio say?

Speaking to Soccernews.nl, Di Marzio stated there will be change at Old Trafford.

Di Marzio named former Brighton manager Roberto Di Zerbi, former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, as well as Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna as the trio.

He said: “Manchester United will separate with Ten Hag at the end of the season.

“Manchester United will have a new coach and the options right now are McKenna and Mauricio Pochettino too. De Zerbi is on the list but hasn’t had direct contact in the last few days.”

Fabrizio Romano provides contrasting update on Ten Hag future

Romano is another Italian reporter who people respect. He claims the FA Cup final will be critical in deciding what happens next with Ten Hag.

Writing his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside, Romano said: “At the moment it’s completely open – it’s a 50-50 situation for Ten Hag.

“After the Wembley final there will be a decision on the coach, so ten Hag knows how important it will be.”

Romano adds that INEOS want to see United’s team play with a “proper mentality” on the pitch against their rivals. He claims that will have a big influence on the club’s position when it comes to Ten Hag’s suitability for the role.

There is a possibility that one of the manager’s looking for a new job this summer could be dropping bombshell stories to the press. Could that be the case with Di Marzio’s line?

I think, behind it all, nobody truly knows what the future holds. Except INEOS.
