Manchester United have today announced the signing of England youth international defender Maya Le Tissier from Brighton & Hove Albion.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Manchester United.

The defender has signed a three-year contract with The Red Devils, keeping her at the Leigh Sports Village until the end of 2024/2025 season.

Le Tissier made 53 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League for her former club, a record for a teenager in the division.

After sealing her move to Leigh Sports Village, Le Tissier said “It’s very special for me to come to a club like Manchester United. The ambition and values of the club suit me as a person and it’s a very exciting project here that I want to be a part of. Today is a very proud moment for me and I can’t wait to pull on the famous red shirt.”

The young Lioness arrives at the club following much speculation regarding her future after she announced that she was leaving Brighton & Hove Albion a little over a week ago. Manchester United are thought to have beaten off some of their Barclays Women’s Super League rivals to land Le Tissier.

Upon the departures of both Martha Harris and Kirsty Smith, full-back was a key area that Manchester United needed to strengthen ahead of the new season with Ona Batlle and Hannah Blundell being their two recognised players in that position. Le Tissier could provide competition both in the centre-back and full-back positions in her time with the club.

The defender becomes the fourth signing of the summer thus far for Marc Skinner’s side after the arrivals of Rachel Williams, Adriana Leon and fellow England youth international Grace Clinton. The target for Skinner and his team this season will surely be to break the dominance of the ‘big three’ and claim a UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification spot.
