The 33-year-old was paraded on the pitch at the Stade Océane ahead of Le Havre’s game with AS Monaco on Saturday, having agreed a deal for the remainder of the campaign. He was a free agent after a spell with Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League in the second half of last season.
Ayew, who has won over 100 caps for Ghana’s Black Stars, was born in France and made his name in Ligue 1 with Marseille before moving to the English Premier League in 2015 to sign for Swansea City. He also played for West Ham United and Turkish giants Fenerbahçe before spending 18 months in Qatar with Al Sadd, where he played under current Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández.
Le Havre drew 0-0 with Monaco in Saturday’s match, squandering the chance to take all three points when Samuel Grandsir had a penalty saved deep in injury time.
