Le Havre lead the race to Ligue 1 with one of the best defences in Europe

France’s football factory – Le Havre has been the team to beat this season in Ligue 2. The northern French club sits in the top spot of Ligue 2, 5 points clear of Bordeaux. This is particularly impressive considering the club does not have a player in the top five for scoring or assists this season. So, how are they getting it done? Le Havre are first in the league by playing some of the best defence seen in all of Europe. The Ligue 2 club has only conceded 6 goals in 17 games. According to Ligue 2, that is not only the best of any club in a second division in Europe’s top leagues, but in the first as well. In fact, the only club in a European top 5 league with statistics that can compare is Barcelona. In the last 3 months, Le Havre’s defence has been impenetrable. In the last 10  league games, the team has only conceded 1 goal. The Ligue 2 team has put together an impressive back line that is anchored by 20-year-old Arouna Sangante and the 27-year-old younger brother of Hugo Lloris, Gautier Lloris. If this defence can continue to make history, Le Havre may just find themselves back in Ligue 1 after 15 years.
