ALAJUELA, Costa Rica – LD Alajuelense won 5-nil over Frazsiers Whip to kick off the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup group stage on Tuesday at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica.
The opening match in Group A began with home side LD Alajuelense looking to take the first three points of the campaign as Kenia Rangel struck in the 17’ in one of the first dangerous attempts of the night.
Frazsiers Whip earned a free kick in the 40’, with Sashana Campbell placing the set piece attempt over the crossbar as the teams remained scoreless into halftime.
Maria Paula Coto ended the deadlock in the 60’ with the first goal of the W Champions Cup group stage.
Natalia Mills got the ball into the back of the net two minutes later, in the 62’, sending a one-touch volley to the top left corner to double the advantage for Las Leonas.
Kenia Rangel scored the third of the night in the 65’ and LD Alajuelense’s third in five minutes, shooting to the left corner of the goal.
Angela Mesen, a second-half substitution, scored the fourth goal in the 77’, converting inside the penalty area.
Mesen completed her brace in the 81’ after receiving the ball from Mills in the center of the box to extend the lead by five.
With the win, LD Alajuelense obtained its first three points in the tournament. The Costa Rican side will retake the field in the WCC when it hosts NJ/NY Gotham FC on September 5 in Alajuela.
Frazsiers Whip will travel to meet CF Monterrey Femenil in its next encounter on September 5 in Mexico.
