Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi highlighted the importance of tomorrow evening’s Derby della Capitale against Roma.

Speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 45-year-old Italian first discussed what kind of game he expects tomorrow.

Tomorrow certainly won’t be a game like the others, even though we had some difficulties against Parma we showed we believe in our objectives right to the end. I’ll ask the guys to have the same humility and determination they had in the second half of the season, which allowed us to play for a Champions League place with three games remaining.

He then touched on Roma’s appointment of Jose Mourinho and if that’ll incentivize him to stay with the Biancocelesti.

Next year we’ll think about it, now let’s focus on tomorrow, it’s a very important derby. Mourinho’s record speaks for itself, he will be an added value for Roma, I can say that we must focus on tomorrow’s match, then we’ll see in 10 days. First, we’re thinking about the derby and the other two games still remaining.

Inzaghi revealed that he does have regrets for Lazio’s performances and results in the first half of the season.

Definitely, but at the same time I also think about the difficulties we had, the energy in the Champions League that was taken away from us. We’ve spent five years together, got 72 points, then 70, this year there are still three games left. The only time we scored 60 points was when the top three positions were already defined and we had the Coppa Italia final in sight. The guys have done very well again this year, and it’s normal to have some regrets after the first half of the season.

The 45-year-old Italian coach agreed with Ciro Immobile’s recent comments after their win over Parma.

Yes, Immobile is one of our captains. He said the right things, I’m happy to coach a player like him.

Finally, Inzaghi discussed which derby against Roma he remembers most, both as a player and a coach.

The derby I remember most as a player was the 2-1 win in the Scudetto-winning year, when we were behind Juve. We went down immediately, then there were goals from Nedved and Veron from a free kick. As a coach, I’d say the return leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final, and almost two and a half months passed between the first leg and the return. We won the first leg, we were playing for the final, we had so many league games in between.

Lazio currently sit sixth in the Serie A table after 35 games with 67 points, six behind fourth-place Napoli, although they have a game in hand.

The Biancocelesti are nine points ahead of seventh-place Roma, who have had a disappointing campaign under coach Paulo Fonseca.
