Lazio winger Gustav Isasken reveals the reasons that prompted him to stay in the Italian capital rather than embark on a new career chapter with Celtic or Feyenoord.

The Glasgow-based club launched an attempt to sign the 23-year-old in late August. However, the player turned down the opportunity, even though he wasn’t starting for Marco Baroni’s side. But as he explained in an interview with TV Midtvest, the Dane didn’t want to throw all the experience he acquired since joining Lazio down the drain.

It would have been a waste to have spent a whole year getting to know everything at Lazio only to start a new stint and begin the same process all over again. So I told my Agent that even if something exciting comes along, I would like to stay with 99% certainty. I feel that I have the potential to become an important player at the club.

In his first year at Lazio, Isaksen was beginning to establish himself under Maurizio Sarri but lost all the momentum following Igor Tudor’s appointment in March. Nevertheless, he’s feeling much more at ease now with Baroni in charge.

I had a bit of a hard time with the previous manager. We didn’t really see eye-to-eye, and I wasn’t the type of player he was seeking. I think I was doing well, so it was a bit frustrating. But following Baroni’s arrival, things are calmer. I feel there’s great prospect for me with the new manager.

Isaksen is facing competition for a starting berth from the likes of Tijjani Noslin and Loum Tchaouna, but he’s beginning to win over Baroni following positive cameos against Udinese and Milan.
