Unfortunately for Lazio, they have lost their groove at the most crucial stage of the campaign. The Biancocelesti endured disappointing results in recent weeks, including a devastating 0-5 hammering at the hands of Bologna. After the international break, Marco Baroni’s men settled for a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against Torino.
Lazio fans were hoping that last weekend’s away victory over Atalanta would kickstart a timely uprising, but it proved to be a false dawn, at least based on their woeful first-leg performance in Norway against Bodo/Glimt in the quarter-final of the Europa League.
The Aquile currently sit 6th in the table, only two points adrift from the Top Four, but they certainly cannot afford another Derby defeat, neither mathematically nor mentally.
If Lazio are going downhill, Roma have been on the rise since Claudio Ranieri’s return from retirement. The Tinkerman salvaged what was deemed to be a forgettable campaign for the club, as they somehow crept their way back to the Champions League scene following an abysmal start.
The Giallorossi currently sit 7th in the Serie A table, only two points behind the Biancocelesti. Therefore, a victory on Sunday would see them overtake their crosstown rivals and consolidate themselves as a genuine contender for a Top-four finish.
Roma’s seven-match winning streak was interrupted by their draw to Juventus last weekend, but they still extended their unbeaten Serie A run to 15 games.
Lazio (4-2-3-1): Mandas; Marusic, Gila, Romagnoli, Pellegrini; Guendouzi, Rovella; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni; Castellanos.
