Lazio are reportedly keeping tabs on Monza attacking midfielder Andrea Colpani who failed to impress at Fiorentina.

The Background

The 26-year-old is a youth product of Atalanta who couldn’t find space in Bergamo, so he joined the Biancorossi on loan in the summer of 2020, before making a permanent transfer in 2022 when the Lombardians secured a historic promotion to Serie A.

Colpani’s Rise to Prominence at Monza

Colpani was one of Monza’s main protagonists in their impressive first two campaigns in the Italian top flight, especially last season when he was on a red-hot form in the early going, earning himself a call-up for the Italian national team.

Last summer, Colpani followed in the footsteps of Raffaele Palladino who left Monza to take over at Fiorentina, signing on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. However, between injuries and a drop in form, the Brescia native wasn’t able to convince the Viola, only registering two goals and three assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Colpani Won’t Stay at Fiorentina

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Fiorentina have opted against keeping the left-footed attacking midfielder, who will now return to Monza. His contract with the Brianza side is valid until June 2028.

Lazio & Sassuolo Want Andrea Colpani

Nevertheless, Colpani isn’t expected to play in Serie B next season, as another move is apparently on the horizon. The transfer market expert reveals that Lazio are after him, and the same goes for Sassuolo who are looking to strengthen their ranks following their return to Serie A.

Where Would Colpani Fit in Maurizio Sarri’s System?

Colpani is originally an attacking midfielder, but he tends to drift to the right flank before cutting to the middle. Hence, he would likely feature as an inverted right winger in Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 system, potentially replacing Loum Tchaouna who is being linked with an exit.
