Lazio had been bracing for bad news after Taty Castellanos left early against Napoli. The striker will indeed spend significant time on the mend. He has been diagnosed with a medium-grade adductor lesion in his left thigh, the team announced.
Per Corriere dello Sport, the center-forward will be out for at least a month. He could be back right before or after the March international break. The Biancocelesti will face Venezia, Milan, Udinese, and Bologna next in Serie A. In addition, he will be unavailable for the Coppa Italia quarter-finals versus Inter next Tuesday and likely both legs of the Europa League’s Round of 16. His side will be paired with either Roma, Porto, Ferencvaros, or Viktoria Plzen.
Lazio lose Castellanos while he was in great form, as he has scored thrice and provided three assists in his last six appearances. He was about to reach the double-digit threshold in Serie A, while he has bagged three goals in the Europa League. He has dished eight helpers across all competitions.
The Biancocelesti don’t have a proper deputy but can deploy a few different players in such a role. Boulaye Dia, who stars as a no.10 in their normal configuration, could handle it like in his Salernitana days. Pedro or Fisayo Dele-Bashiru would play a few meters behind him in that event. The Spaniard is also an option to spearhead the frontline, and the same goes for Tijjani Noslin, who has replaced the Argentine a few times already.
The timing is particularly unfortunate, as his absence will hinder their chase of multiple objectives. They could really use the best version of Noslin to avoid too many adjustments.
