Lazio are suddenly on the cusp of signing Salernitana striker Boulaye Dia on the back of a swift onslaught.
The Biancocelesti were heavily linked with the Senegal international earlier in the summer, but the story eventually faded, with the club apparently deciding to pursue a pure winger – like Armand Laurienté – rather than a centre-forward.
Nevertheless, Lazio have all of a sudden rekindled their interest in Dia.
Alfredo Pedullà explains that Lazio have decided to alternate their strategy. They’re no longer seeking a new winger, but rather a striker in addition to a midfielder; fellow Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio echoes the same story.
Pedullà believes the Italian capital is now about to close the operation. He expects the Aquile to soon sign the former Villarreal striker on a deal worth €10 million plus €1 in bonuses. The Senegalese striker would thus reunite with Lazio Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani, who was the one who brought him to Salernitana.
Dia enjoyed a stellar first campaign in Italian football, scoring 16 goals in the league. However, the Granata’s woes last season took its toll on his performances. The Salerno-based club suffered relegation on the back of a miserable campaign.
Dia’s contract with the Serie B club is valid until 2026. He mostly plays as a centre-forward, but can also feature on the wings or as a second striker.
