Serie A outfit Lazio have regained their interest in Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto, according to Corriere dello Sport (21/1; page 18).

The Whites have seen plenty of their players being linked with moves away since their relegation from the Premier League in May.

And one player who has attracted plenty of interest is Gnonto, though he was unable to secure an exit during the previous window despite the fact some of Leeds' other key men were able to secure either loan or permanent transfers away from Elland Road.

It was made clear to Gnonto and his representatives in August that he wouldn't be allowed to depart the club during the summer window.

And after being told that, he made himself unavailable for games against Shrewsbury Town and Birmingham City, though the issue managed to be resolved before the end of that month.

The Italian winger has struggled this season though, registering just one goal and one assist in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign, though an injury he sustained in September did keep him out for a month and that may have played a big part in his struggles.

He also hasn't been a regular starter with Crysencio Summerville continuing to impress, but Gnonto is still believed to be attracting interest.

There has been plenty of speculation about whether West Ham United are interested in Gnonto or not, but it does seem as though Lazio have taken an interest.

That's according to Corriere dello Sport [21/1; page 18] (via MOT Leeds News), who believe Maurizio Sarri wants to secure a deal for a winger during this window.

The report hasn't ruled out an exit for Gnonto this month, although he isn't the only player on the Italian outfit's shortlist with Tottenham Hotspur's Bryan Gil and Salernitana's Antonio Candreva also named as targets.

Leeds United should reject Lazio interest in Willy Gnonto

At the moment, Leeds probably won't generate a huge amount for Gnonto.

Not only is he not starting regularly, but he's also not making much of an impact so far this season.

This is why he won't be the subject of major bids.

With his contract not expiring anytime soon, they need to review his situation in the summer instead.

If he does well during the second half of the season and his valuation increases because of that, a sale should be considered, but he shouldn't be let go this month.
