Lazio are set to formulate an offer for young Argentine Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz but face competition from Brazil in Flamengo.
The 21-year-old has recently landed on Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani’s wishlist as the Biancocelesti look to bolster their midfield department with one more addition. The Argentine can either play in the middle of the park or behind the striker.
According to La Repubblica (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Lazio will soon present the English club with a concrete bid. The Italian capital side is looking to sign Alcaraz on an initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season. The agreement would include a buy-back option in favour of the Saints who would be open to this formula.
But as the source notes, Lazio’s current priority is to sign Boulaye Dia from Salernitana and then offload the deadwood to make room for a new arrival. This includes the likes of Matteo Cancellieri and Toma Basic.
Moreover, Ge Globo (via LazioNews24) claims that Flamengo is posing a threat to Lazio’s plans, as the Brazilian giants are also in the fray for Alcaraz. The Mengao are reportedly offering €18 million to bring the Argentine back to South America.
Alcaraz spent the second part of the previous campaign on loan at Juventus but failed to deliver the goods. The Bianconeri thus opted against maintaining his services on a permanent basis. The midfielder’s contract with Southampton is valid until June 2028.
