Lazio directors have reportedly held a meeting with the agent of Hellas Verona youngster Reda Belahyane.
The 20-year-old has recently emerged as one of the main candidates to bolster Marco Baroni’s midfield department in January. The young player already served under the tutelage of the current Lazio boss following his arrival at the Bentegodi in January, crediting the latter with helping him adjust to Italian football.
This season, the Morocco international has been a true revelation at Verona, cementing himself as one of the best rising deep-lying playmakers in Serie A, earning himself interest from some of the country’s biggest clubs, and chief among them are the Aquile who prefer to sign a player under the age of 22, as their senior squad list is already saturated.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Belahyane’s agent was at Formello for a meeting with Lazio’s top brass. The Biancocelesti directors are examining the plausibility of a mid-season transfer. The source expects a midfielder to arrive in January, so it remains to be seen if the former OGC Nice youngster would be the one.
Nevertheless, the Roman newspaper warns Lazio that Milan and their crosstown rivals Inter are also keeping tabs on the young midfielder. Belahyane has made 13 appearances in Serie A this season, providing two assists for his teammates. His contract with the Gialloblu is valid until the summer of 2028.
