Lazio will be without Nuno Tavares for the Derby della Capitale as he suffered yet another muscle injury during Sunday’s contest against Atalanta.
The Portuguese joined the Biancocelesti from Arsenal last summer on loan with an obligation to buy. The left-back produced stellar displays at the start of the season, but his momentum has been constantly derailed by recurring injury problems.
The 25-year-old had just made his return to action in the weekend showdown in Bergamo, but was forced to leave the pitch after suffering his sixth physical problem of the season.
According to several sources in Italy, including La Lazio Siamo Noi, Tavares has been ruled out of action for a period between 15 and 20 days. Following the team’s return from Bergamo, the full-back underwent clinical tests, which detected a first-degree lesion to the adductor of the left thigh.
This happens to be the same issue he suffered during the warm-up ahead of the Bologna contest and then prompted the Portuguese national team to send him back to Rome immediately.
Therefore, Tavares is now expected to miss next Sunday’s big Derby della Capitale clash against Roma, as well as the two legs of the Europa League quarter-final against Bodo/Glimt. His availability for the Serie A contest against Genoa on April 21st is also doubtful, but the club will be hoping to have him back for the Europa League semi-final, if they were to reach that stage.
In the meantime, Marco Baroni will be able to rely on the versatile Adam Marusic and Elseid Hysaj as left-back solutions, whereas Luca Pellegrini is solely available in Serie A due to his omission from the Europa League squad.
