Alessio Romagnoli touched on his future once his Milan contract expires amid heavy links with a move to Lazio.

The 27-year-old Italian centre back started to slip out of the Rossoneri first team last season under Stefano Pioli and it became clear as this season developed that he would not be offered a new contract. Romagnoli will now leave Milan on a free transfer next month, ending a seven-year association with the club.

Speaking to Milan TV (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after Milan’s win over Sassuolo, Romagnoli discussed how it feels to win the Scudetto and what his future holds amid links to Lazio.

I think it’s deserved. I’ve been suffering for many years and now we’ll enjoy it until the end. I take this opportunity to thank everyone, it’s an unforgettable moment. I don’t know what I will do in the future but in the meantime… I am proud to be part of this team, we were the strongest and we proved it.

The 2021-22 Scudetto was Romagnoli’s second trophy with Milan, with the first being the Supercoppa Italiana in the 2016-17 season. It’s a fitting end to his time in Lombardy, capping off the seven years in the best possible fashion.

The 27-year-old Italian centre back is close to agreeing a free transfer to Lazio and he’s set to earn around €3 million net per season plus add-ons. Negotiations have finally broken past the deadlock and things are now moving ahead positively.
