Flamengo kicked off 2022 with a victory on Wednesday night as the extremely youthful Flamengo side defeated Portuguesa 2-1 in Matchday 1 of the Taça Guanabara.

Scorers: Lázaro 5′ (pen), 55′; Sanchez 61′

Lázaro scored both goals as he finally scored for the first time for the Flamengo professional side.

Despite not scoring, forward 19-year-old André was the highlight of the match, putting on a fantastic performance and wowing the home crowd with many sensational runs.

Though they lacked age, Flamengo’s young side exuded confidence and never took any risks, being well in control of the match despite having to hold on for the final half-hour.

Flamengo will next take on Volta Redonda this Saturday while Portuguesa will try again against Audax Rio.
