Argentina are without Lionel Messi tonight – but they will be thanking the heavens they have Lautaro Martinez.
The Inter striker was heavily criticized for his lacklustre performances at Qatar 2022, but he’s now back on the international stage and delivering.
Martinez came off the bench to score against Canada, was the super sub in a 1-0 win over Chile and has now found the back of the net again.
With Argentina sitting 0-0 against Peru, he split two defenders and chipped home the opener seconds into the second half.
Martinez celebrated by running over to his captain and hugging him. But it didn’t stop there!
The striker secured the win with his second of the night and fourth of the tournament minutes before full-time.
He now leads the Copa América Golden Boot race above Darwin Nunez, Folarin Balogun, Maximiliano Araujo and Vinicius Junior.
He also has a stunning nine goals in the 13 Copa América matches he’s featured in. What a way to respond to the haters!
