Inter captain Lautaro Martinez admits last season’s Serie A title was the ‘biggest emotion’ of his career at a club level but insists the Nerazzurri must ‘raise the bar’ to win more trophies.
Inter star Lautaro Martinez released an exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Nerazzurri have just unveiled a movie recounting the 2023-24 campaign, which ended with a historic Scudetto, the 20th in the club’s history.
“This title was the biggest emotion in my life, at least at a club level. Of course, the World Cup with Argentina was a childhood dream that became a reality,” said Lautaro.
“I will forever carry this second star with me, and the same is true for my teammates. It was an extraordinary and demanding season, but thanks to teamwork, we built something incredible.”
The Serie A giants mathematically clinched the Scudetto on April 22, 2024 with five games to spare, beating their city rivals Milan.
“When the final whistle was blown in the derby, I would have wanted to run under our fans, but I couldn’t because emotions blocked me,” Lautaro recalled.
“So many things crossed my mind at that moment. Challenging moments with my teammates and, at the same time, the satisfaction of overcoming them. Hard work paid off. We are so proud.”
The Nerazzurri have earned seven points in the opening three Serie A games of the season and meet Monza in the next league match on Sunday.
Next week, they’ll make their 2024-25 Champions League debut in an away game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. On September 22, exactly five months after April’s derby against Milan, they’ll meet their city rivals again for the first time this season.
“This title was very important for our careers and the club, but we should not stop. We must desire to grow every day, individually and as a group. The objective is always to raise the bar,” concluded Lautaro.
