Inter striker Lautaro Martinez looks like he is once again revelling in the spotlight at club level after having found his contribution to be fairly marginal for Argentina at the World Cup.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who highlight how the 25-year-old has been right at the heart of this Nerazzurri team after having been relegated to the bench during Argentina’s World Cup triumph.

Martinez certainly looks as though he has taken a big boost in confidence from winning the World Cup with Argentina in December.

However, in truth, it was a victory for which the Nerazzurri striker was largely a spectator, as despite his decisive penalty in a shootout against the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, he was only ever an impact substitute after poor performances in the Albiceleste’s first couple matches.

The fact that Martinez finished a tournament in which he was tipped to shine without a goal or assist raised fresh doubts about the 25-year-old, but he has certainly answered them in the best way possible in an Inter shirt.

Seven goals and an assist over the past month for his club side have only scratched the surface of what Martinez has brought to the Nerazzurri.

The Argentine’s performance against Milan in yesterday evening’s 1-0 derby win was only the latest outstanding display in a string of them, and it also came whilst wearing a captain’s armband that may soon become permanently installed.

For Tuttosport, there can be no question about it – if Martinez had been nothing more than a bit part player for Argentina at the World Cup, for Inter he is the main man dragging the team as far as they can go.
